Promoting solutions and advisory for energy-efficiency and renewables in Armenia (SAFER)
Project term: 01.04.2025-28.02.2027
The project supports vulnerable households in rural Armenia to implement energy-efficient measures that can reduce energy consumption and decrease utility costs. Rural households often deploy fuelwood and dried dung as a main source of energy. Measures such as housing envelope insulation, energy-efficient stoves, energy-efficient electric heaters, and rooftop solar panels not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also to a healthier living environment and an improved quality of life.
- At least 10,000 households benefit from direct and indirect measures related to energy efficiency and savings, such as raising awareness or training. - A communication campaign, including promotion in TV and radio channels, social media content, public events, energy efficiency calculators, an energy efficiency investment guideline and material on quality and safety standards, fosters outreach. - 300 women-led vulnerable households as the main target group implement measures in energy efficiency or renewable energy solutions, reducing their financial expenses for energy by 20 percent. - Manufacturers of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions are trained in business management and entrepreneurial skills (particularly marketing, client management, sales and distribution, e-commerce). - Except for small-scale measures, investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions often require financial borrowing. Vulnerable women-led households will receive projects funds for such investments.
By promoting the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficient technologies, the project reduces the reliance on fossil fuels and helps to reduce deforestation.
The project is implemented in the framework of the GIZ project ‘Sustainable energies for climate resilient municipal development in Armenia (SE4Resilience)’.
