Georgia is situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. It is largely surrounded by the Greater Caucasus and Lesser Caucasus mountains, which form part of a natural boundary between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Georgia is bounded by Azerbaijan to the southeast, to the south by Armenia and Turkey, to the north and northeast by Russia, and to the west by the Black Sea.
Georgian biosphere is one of the ecologically diverse on earth, as it has almost every type of climate, from subtropical and alpine to semi-desert. The land is conducive to agriculture, with about 50 different types of soil, and a wide variety of species can be found all over the country.
Tourism in Georgia is one of the fastest growing sectors of the local economy, which has high potential for further development. Georgia preserves a rich collection of fascinating and diverse architectural monuments. It is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
German Sparkassenstiftung opened its office in Georgia in 2002. Since then, we have successfully implemented projects financed by BMZ, GIZ, KfW, and other donors.
The German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation is the development-policy arm of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. Its task is to disseminate the successful Sparkasse idea across borders and around the globe. The German Sparkassenstiftung strengthens financial institutions and promotes financial literacy for all segments of the population. This broadens access to financial services and helps to create jobs and generate income.
