They were founded over 200 years ago to facilitate access to financial services for people with small and medium incomes. Since then, they have grown into one of the largest financial groups around the world – with a strong social mandate. Sparkassen offer modern financial services for people from all walks of life. They are the main creditor of regional economy.

The German Sparkassenstiftung has been carrying this idea into the world since 1992. We can look back on more than 250 projects in over 100 countries. Bringing savings back into the regional economic cycle as loans creates stable structures for economic and social growth.

In its project work, German Sparkassenstiftung communicates these success factors to its partners and carries its ideals into the world. German Sparkassenstiftung proactively supports financial institutions at local, regional and national level. The aim is to assist partner institutions in their professionalization by providing banking services that meet the customers' needs.
