Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia bordering Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, and Afghanistan. More than two-thirds of its area is covered with high mountains. In total, Tajikistan has more than 60 % of Central Asia's water resources in solid or liquid form. Tajikistan has a young and fast-growing population. 32.5 % of the population are less than 15 years old.

Tajikistan is one of the oldest states in the world. The territory of modern Tajikistan was inhabited before the mid-1st millennium BC by Sogdians and Bactrians, who founded their famous states of Sogdia and Bactria in ancient times. Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan. The name of this city means 'Monday', on this day the weekly market was held. Dushanbe is not only the political, but also the cultural and economic heart of the country.
